Planning & Development Control
Draft District Plan
Mid Sussex District Council has now published its draft District Plan for consultation. Once completed and adopted, this will be the main planning document used by the District Council and will reflect the proposed changes to the planning system being introduced by the Coalition Government. The document will state the number of houses to be built in the District, but this is expected to be much lower than the figure allocated by the South East Plan. Instead of allocating development to particular areas, it is expected that towns and parishes will prepared their own Neighbourhood Plans, which will include the identification of sites for new housing and business development. The deadline for responding to the draft plan is the 13th January 2012.
Work on Core Strategy Halted
On 16 June 2010, Mid Sussex District Council stopped work on the Core Strategy due to changes the new Government proposes for the planning system. This includes the abolition of the South East Plan, which set out the number of new houses to be built in the District. These changes are included in the Decentralisation and Localism Bill.
