Snow Clearance 5 February 2012
Most roads around the village have been cleared by snow plough this morning. The primary school and Village Centre car parks have also been cleared. Residents can help by using grit from the Parish Council's grit bins to treat nearby roads and junctions.
Please remember that grit is not for use on private land. Click here for more information about clearing snow.
Affordable Housing
Permission was granted by the MSDC North Area Planning Committee on the 15th December 2011. More information will be available shortly.
URGENT - Bus user survey
West Sussex County Council announced earlier this year that they would be reducing the subsidy to bus companies by £2 million. These reductions are being introduced in three phases. Most bus companies operate their routes on a commercial basis, but some routes are given a subsidy from the County Council to help them run. Funding decisions on some of these routes have already been made or are due to be made shortly. To help WSCC decide about where to make savings on the remaining subsidised routes under review, they need to know more about how you use the affected bus routes.
As far as Ashurst Wood is concerned, the following could affect our bus services:
270 (East Grinstead – Haywards Heath): Withdrawal of service on Sundays & Public Holidays
[THIS 2-HOURLY SERVICE PROVIDES 6 OF OUR 9 SUNDAY/PH BUSES]
291 (East Grinstead – Crawley): Withdrawal of Sunday & Public Holiday early morning and evening journeys
[THIS MAY NOT AFFECT ASHURST WOOD AS THE EARLY AND LATE JOURNEYS RUN ONLY BETWEEN E.G. AND CRAWLEY. THE 3 TUNBRIDGE WELLS JOURNEYS ARE NOT SUBSIDISED BY WEST SUSSEX AND ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT WOULD REMAIN ON THESE DAYS IF THE 270 IS CUT]
391 (Crawley – East Grinstead): Withdrawal of evening service
[ON MON-SAT THERE ARE BUSES AT 19 42, 21 39 AND 23 39 TOWARDS F.R. AND 22 00 TO CRAWLEY THAT ARE LIKELY TO BE AFFECTED. WHILST THEY ARE NOT HEAVILY USED, THEY PROVIDE A USEFUL LINK FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND OTHERS TO/FROM EVENINGS OUT INCLUDING CONNECTIONS WITH EVENING TRAINS. IF THEY ARE ALL CUT, THERE WILL BE NO BUS FROM E.G. TO ASHURST WOOD AFTER THE 18 44.]
Further information can be found at http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=16856 where the survey can also be completed.
Ashurst Wood Parish Council has commented at length on these proposals, which were originally proposed for September 2011. These comments can be found click here
The latest issue of the Parish Council’s summary timetable, showing a few minor changes to train times from 11th December 2011, is available from the Transport option on this website.
THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE SURVEY IS JANUARY 17 2012. IF YOU THINK THE CHANGES WILL AFFECT YOU IN ANY WAY, PLEASE GO ON LINE AND RESPOND TO WEST SUSSEX. YOUR COMMENTS COULD MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

Japanese Knotweed Back to top
Japanese Knotweed is EXTREMELY difficult to eradicate and the chances of 1 spray with herbicide are very unlikely to eradi
cate it. On a well established site such as this it could take 5 or more years to be clear. Any interference with the plant makes eradication more unlikely. The underground resources of this plant can be vast and the more smaller and broken stems there are the harder it is to eradicate.
The West Sussex Ranger- Mike Funnell has records of all the sites he has dealt with and even after not finding a plant for a year or more - and he carries out a thorough search - he has known it to regrow. On sites where he thinks he has eradicated it using roundup these have been sites where it has not has had any disturbance.
Please report new sites to the Ranger or Parish Clerk. Ashurst Wood and the border with East Grinstead is one of the more heavily infested areas of the County. The Ranger has not managed to completely eradicate it from Forest Way yet! If it is growing on highway land please report to West Sussex County Council Highways.

Calor Village of the Year Competition 2008 Back to top
The Parish Council is delighted to announce that Ashurst Wood won the runners-up prize in its category (villages in west Sussex with 1000 to 5000 residents) in the Calor Village of the Year competition. This is an excellent result as it was the first time the village has entered the competition. The judges looked at how various community groups, clubs and organisations work together to make the village a pleasant and caring place to live. Thanks must therefore go to all the volunteers in the village, including members of St Dunstan’s church, the Trustees of the Village Centre and the Pre-school, whose hard work helped in achieving this award.

New Speed Limit Back to top
From the 22 October 2007 a 30 mph speed limit came into effect on the A22 Lewes Road, from the Beeching Way roundabout to a point 186 metres south-east of the junction with Park Lane. East Sussex County Council has introduced a 50 mph speed limit on the next section of the A22, up to the 30 mph section at Forest Row.
